Mission statement

As a result of man-made and natural catastrophes, there are an estimated 27 million Internally Displaced Persons worldwide, spread over 52 countries.

In the process of recovery, it is not only the body that needs strengthening with food and water but also the mind and spirit. This organization is grounded in the belief that culture is a fundamental human need that holds within it a massive potential for changing society and people by bringing hope and understanding.

Cinema has the capacity to transcend age, gender, race, language, nationality and social status. Films engage, inform and educate. They raise social issues and make the audience question their own opinions about the world, its people and its politics. Movies turn lives around, inspire people to overcome obstacles, stimulate creativity, provide role models, and broaden horizons, all while providing an entertaining diversion from the often difficult realities of everyday life.

"Films are a powerful and evocative tool for fostering understanding and tolerance in the world"

Nelson Mandela, Nobel Laureate for Peace

About

CINEMA OF HOPE is a non-profit organization, formed to initiate and facilitate theme-based film screenings for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in developing countries around the world. Our focus is on regions where the immediate emergency relief phase is over and the process of rehabilitation has begun.

We want audiences of all ages to leave their worries behind and step into the fantastic world of film. We seek to help viewers to let their senses flow towards inspiration, to think critically, to laugh and to cry as their hearts and souls are captured by the cinematic adventure. In summary, the mission is a commitment to inform, to educate, and last but in no way least to spread joy and to project hope.

CINEMA OF HOPE – projecting a better future

"Films help foster one of childhood’s most precious assets – imagination."

Carol Bellamy, Former Executive Director, UNICEF

Donate

As a non-profitable organization we are in our work relying solely on donations and grants from people all over the world.

Donations are a necessary bridge to a world of abundance unhindered by a system, which only provides for some lucky few while exploiting the many others.

When donating, you are actively resisting an old money system and supporting the evolution of a more equitable means of assigning value to goods and services, in this case; the broadening and enjoyment of the filmic culture as is the mission of this organization.

We thank you kindly for your support.

"The ability of films to communicate crucial information... a community spirit flourishes where people assemble to watch a film."

Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General, United Nations
